Meet Jonah, he is just like any other little boy, he is full of energy, and laughter, enjoys playing video games, and annoying his brother.. he is just like any other little boy except that Jonah Has cancer. While all of the other children were busy planning out how to spend their summer vacations, or the last summer before Pre-k or Kindergarten starts, with trips to the beach, and Disney and everywhere else… jonah was spending time at University of Maryland Medical center receiving chemo treatments, undergoing tests, and being pretty much contained to one unit of the hospital.. but you know what? Despite all of that everytime I saw sweet Jonah he had a smile on his face, was full of laughter or giving out hugs. You see unlike us adults he didn’t let something like cancer define him, he went about his day, enjoyed life, laughed, carried on, was most likely a bit naughty from time to time basically being a kid, and a great kid at that. The times I saw him he didn’t seem to phased by it all, of course he had bad days, we all do its part of being human, I am sure there were days when testing was long and he was tired, when a 4 year old with energy wanted nothing to do with the inside 4 walls of that hospital room, where he missed his home.. where he was in pain, or just wanted to feel what normal felt like again.. but Jonah, and quite honestly his incredible family didnt let it shake them… them stood firm in their faith, grounded by scripture and knew that God had a plan for their little boy and this was just part of the journey. Watching Jonahs mom as she carried her little boy through the trials and challenges that come with such an ugly thing like cancer, helped me to realize that so many of “bad days” are really not bad days at all, when you can spend weeks inside of a hospital watching your sweet baby boy and the struggles that come his way as he battles cancer those are “bad days” but jonahs mom handles them with such grace, she is an incredible woman and mother, and was certainly a horrible, terrible.. beautiful thing to watch for something to go from so bad to hear that her little boy had completed chemo and was caner free, and was coming home.

Thank you to jonahs family for allowing me to document this time in your lives, while tender still now, and always to remain bitter sweet I hope these images serve as a reminder of how strong you all are, and how incredible God is!
