I’ve know Wendy for a few years, she is delightful to be around, uplifting, and inspiring. As part of my Local Business Spotlight, I wanted to introduce Wendy to my reader, and about her amazing business of transforming lives. We met last week for a photo shoot on the beach, it was a blast.. I of course ran right home and practiced some of the moves she showed off… they were tough stuff.
Wendy, Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family, and your business?–
My name is Wendy Preslan and I am passionate about health and fitness. My vision is to help people embark on a journey to wellness that will forever change their lives. I am the proud mother of three amazing daughters, three beautiful granddaughters and a precious grandson. I have learned many things while raising my daughters; including the importance of health, fitness and self esteem. I have many goals that I would like to obtain during my career in the health field but providing education is such a key component to reaching my goals. As a certified Ace Health Coach and personal trainer; I have the wonderful opportunity to do just that. I have spent over 30 years as a gym member and what concerns me the most is the dropout rate of members. As obesity statistics become more alarming it is more important now than ever before to find ways to help people get motivated and to continue improving the quality of their lives. Through my many years of education and commitment to this field I have developed several programs that I believe will be instrumental in reaching this goal. My programs are not meant to be quick fixes but lifestyle changes. I also work in the healthcare field and I have seen firsthand what an impact poor fitness and nutrition can have on a person’s overall health. 64% of Americans are overweight or obese. We have the power to change that alarming statistic. Diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke can be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight and becoming physically active. Total Fitness Rx is a health and wellness business which provides services to help people start a journey towards better health and fitness. I offer services to help get that journey started as well as tools and support to keep you on the road to total fitness. My specialty is in nutrition and weight management
What drives your passion with Total Fitness Rx?
What drives my passion is my love for people and a desire to help. I see how lives can be changed by getting healthy. I love to be a part of making dreams come true
What has been your biggest challenge so far in either running your business or the healthy lifestyles that you promote?
My biggest challenge is competition. There are so many programs, trainers and gyms that are offering the same services. My challenge is trying to find my special niche in the market. The other challenge I have is helping people to sort through all the misinformation that is on the internet.
If we ran into you on a sunny Saturday afternoon what would we find you doing?
If you ran into me on a sunny Saturday it would probably be in the grocery store. I am a huge foodie and I love to cook. I prep most of my meals on the weekend for the upcoming week. That is how I know I will eat healthy all week. You may also find me out taking my dog for a long walk while listening to music. I love to choreograph new Zumba dances in my head first.
Just for fun, so we can get to know you better tell us what three of your Fav’s would be?
Football/Peyton Manning My Vitamix Yoga Pants
What piece of advice would you give to someone struggling to loose weight or find a balanced healthy lifestyle?
Start by making small changes to your diet and lifestyle. Gradually add more difficult changes. If you start out trying to change too much at once it will be overwhelming and you will have a hard time sticking to your plan. Get a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps everyday. And I almost NEVER have my clients count calories and I encourage them to hide the scale.
Shortly after chatting, I asked Wendy if she could show us a move that could be done at home, that would be easy to follow but still challenging and one that would show some results! Below Wendy will be demonstrating this move for you to follow along at home! Frog Squat: Targets Quads, Glutes and Hamstrings-Do this exercise 3 times a week. Start with 15-20 reps and work up to 40-50. I love working large muscle groups because the more muscle the more calories you burn at rest. Muscles are metabolically active!
- Stand with your feet should width apart, toes slightly turned out
- Squat low to the ground with your hamstrings parallel to the ground
- rest your elbows on the inside of your thighs
- raise your butt in the air and return to starting position
For a more challenging exercise add a 10-15 pound kettle bell. Hold the kettle bell using a wide grip, drop the kettle bell between your legs and when you raise your butt the bell goes between your legs and then into a bicep curl. Continue this pendulum swing during the repetitions.
