A Portrait Journey with the Shade Family

As a Baltimore family photographer, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is getting to document families as they grow and change over the years. Few stories highlight that more beautifully than my time with the Shade family.

I’ve had the joy of photographing the Shades since before their youngest was even born. From those first sessions filled with baby giggles, to milestone portraits marking birthdays and then a wedding, to the fun, laughter-filled gatherings we continue to create today it’s been such a privilege to walk alongside them with my camera.

What I love most about photographing the Shade family is how natural and easygoing they are in front of the lens. Each session feels less like “picture day” and more like catching up with old friends. We always end up laughing, joking, and capturing moments that feel authentically them.

These portrait updates have become a tradition, and it’s always exciting to see how the kids have grown, how family dynamics shift, and how love continues to shine through in every image. Being able to look back through the years of photographs tells such a powerful story—the story of a family rooted in connection, joy, and togetherness.

For me, that’s the heart of family photography. It’s not just about one perfect picture for the wall; it’s about building a visual legacy. And with the Shade family, that legacy keeps growing in the most wonderful ways.
