Why Moms Deserve to Be in the Photos Too

As mothers, we are often the ones behind the camera.

We capture the birthdays, the first steps, the messy breakfasts, beach vacations, school milestones, and all the little everyday moments that make up childhood. Our camera rolls are filled with our children growing up  but when we scroll back through those memories, something is often missing.

Us.

So many moms tell me the same thing before a motherhood session:

“I need updated photos of my kids.”
“I don’t really need to be in them.”
“Maybe just a few of me with them.”

But here’s the truth: your children don’t just want photos of themselves one day  they’ll want photos of you with them.

They’ll want to remember:

• the way you held them
• how you looked at them
• your hugs
• your laughter
• the comfort of simply being in your arms

These are the things children remember emotionally, and photographs help preserve those feelings.

This recent motherhood session was such a beautiful reminder of that. Watching this mama love on her babies, laugh with them, and simply be present in the moment created images that feel so much deeper than a traditional portrait.

It wasn’t about perfect smiles.
It wasn’t about everyone looking at the camera.

It was about connection.

The way her little ones reached for her hand.
The cuddles.
The playful moments.
The quiet in-between interactions that often become the most meaningful images.

As moms, we can be our own biggest critics. We often wait until:

• we lose weight
• life feels less chaotic
• the kids are older
• schedules calm down

But motherhood doesn’t pause while we wait for the “perfect time.”

Your children are growing right now.

They deserve to have tangible memories of this version of you  the one who loves them deeply through all the ordinary and extraordinary moments.

One day, these images become part of your family’s legacy.

They remind your children:
Mom was here.
Mom loved us fiercely.
Mom was part of every beautiful chapter.
