Making a Splash with Your Family Baltimore Family Photographer
There’s just something magical about summer evenings spent by the water. The warm sunshine, the sound of the river flowing, little toes splashing through the shallows, and the kind of giggles that happen when kids are allowed to simply be kids. Summer river sessions are one of my favorite ways to capture the joy, connection, and personality of your family!
As a Baltimore Family Photographer, I love creating sessions that feel less like a formal photo shoot and more like an evening spent making memories together. And when water is involved? The kids are usually ALL IN!

Why Families Love Summer River Sessions
If you’ve ever tried to get your kids to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera, you know that sometimes the best photographs happen when we let go of the expectations and follow their lead.
That’s exactly what I love about river sessions!
Instead of worrying about keeping little hands clean or making sure everyone stays perfectly posed, we get to embrace the fun. Kids can splash in the water, explore the riverbank, skip rocks, hold hands with Mom and Dad, and just enjoy being together. Those genuine smiles, spontaneous hugs, and water-splashing giggles are the moments that make these sessions so special.
And don’t worry—we’ll still make time for those beautiful, connected family portraits, too! My goal is to give you a gallery that includes a little bit of everything: the classic family photographs you’ll frame on your walls, the sweet in-between moments, and the playful images that bring you right back to what this season of life felt like.
Because one day, those little feet won’t be quite so little, and the kids who begged to splash in the river will be all grown up. I want you to have photographs that let you remember it all.
River and Beach Sessions Fill Up Fast!
Summer sessions by the water are always popular, and for good reason! River and beach locations offer beautiful natural scenery, gorgeous summer light, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy for families to have fun together.
But because these sessions are seasonal and depend on the right weather, lighting, and location conditions, river and beach sessions tend to book up quickly.
I typically book my sessions about 2–3 months in advance, so if you’re dreaming of summer family photos by the water, I recommend reaching out early rather than waiting until summer is already in full swing.
The most popular dates and evening time slots can disappear quickly. Planning ahead gives us the best chance of finding a date that works for your family and securing a spot before the summer calendar fills.
If you’re hoping for summer family photos, now is the time to start thinking ahead!
Let Them Splash. Let Them Play. Let Them Be Little.
Some of my favorite family photographs come from the moments that weren’t planned. The unexpected splash, the laughter when Dad gets his feet wet, the little one who decides the water is much more exciting than the camera, or the way everyone naturally gathers together after a good giggle.
Those are the moments that tell your family’s story.
My approach to family photography is about more than getting everyone to look at the camera. It’s about creating an experience where your family can connect, play, and enjoy being together while I capture the memories unfolding along the way.
A summer river session is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

River and beach sessions are limited and tend to fill quickly, so I encourage families to reach out 2–3 months ahead of their preferred session date whenever possible.

Because the best summer memories aren’t always the ones where everyone stays dry.
