Because the little girls in these photographs won’t always be this age. They’ll keep growing, changing, and becoming more of who they are. And that’s exactly why I love photographing these seasons. The flowers will fade. The seasons will change. The girls will grow. But they’ll always have these photographs to remember this little piece of their story. If you are looking for a #baltimorefamilyphotographer to document your family as your children grow i’d love to create those memories with you. #annapolisfamilyphotographer #baltimorefamily

Watching Them Grow: A Family Session in a Baltimore Flowering Garden

One of my favorite parts of being a Baltimore Family Photographer is getting to watch families grow.

Some families come into my life for one session, and others become familiar faces I look forward to seeing year after year. This beautiful family is one of those families for me, and I truly treasure the opportunity to photograph them again and again.

I have been working with their family for many years now, which means I have had the incredible privilege of watching their girls grow up right in front of my camera. Every year brings something new a little more height, a new personality trait, different interests, and all those little changes that happen so quickly when you’re raising children.

And then we meet up again.

It’s one of the things I love most about family photography.

A Baltimore Family Tradition

There is something so special about photographing the same family over the years. When I look back at their previous sessions, I can see just how much the girls have changed. But when we’re together again, there are still those familiar smiles, personalities, and little moments that make them unmistakably themselves.

This year, we met up at a beautiful flowering garden in Baltimore, surrounded by lush greenery, blooming flowers, and all the beauty that comes with that little window between seasons.

It was the perfect setting for their family portraits.

The garden gave us layers of color and texture, while their soft white and dusty blue outfits kept the focus right where it belonged on them.

Just in Time for the Seasons to Change

There is something magical about photographing families outdoors at the change of seasons.

The flowers are still blooming, the trees are full, and the garden feels alive, but there is also that subtle feeling that things are about to change.

And isn’t that exactly what childhood feels like?

Just when you think you have a season of life figured out, your kids grow another inch, develop a new interest, lose a tooth, change their favorite thing, or suddenly look a little less like the child you remember from last year’s photos.

That’s why I love photographing families year after year.

We aren’t just creating pretty pictures. We’re documenting the changes.

The Gift of Watching Them Grow

As a Baltimore Family Photographer, I don’t think I’ll ever take for granted what a gift it is when families invite me back into their lives.

I get to see the little girls who once needed help with everything become more independent. I get to watch their personalities develop. I get to see the way siblings interact and how family relationships change and grow right alongside the children.

And every year, I get another little snapshot of who they are right now.

Because someday, “right now” will be different.

The girls will be taller. Their interests will change. Their childhood seasons will slowly become memories.

But these photographs will let their family come back to this moment.

Back to the flowering garden.

Back to the smiles.

Back to the way they looked at each other.

Back to this particular season of their family story.

That is why I love what I do.

And that is why I will always be so grateful when families choose me to document their lives year after year.

If you’re looking for a Baltimore Family Photographer to document your family as your children grow, I would love nothing more than to create those memories with you and hopefully see you again next year, too.
