Because the little girls in these photographs won’t always be this age. They’ll keep growing, changing, and becoming more of who they are. And that’s exactly why I love photographing these seasons. A Little Dragon, a Little Cake, and Lots of Fun | Baltimore Family Photographer

Not every cake smash starts with a big smile and honestly, that’s part of the fun!

This sweet little girl came into the studio for a dragon-themed cake smash session filled with pretty pinks and blues, a little bit of magic, and, yes… a few tears along the way. But just like many one-year-olds, once she had some time to warm up and figure out what was happening, those tears turned into smiles, giggles, and plenty of fun!

As a Baltimore Family Photographer, I love these sessions because they capture so much more than a perfectly posed birthday portrait. They capture your little one’s personality exactly as it is at this stage.

A Magical Dragon Cake Smash

This wasn’t your typical princess birthday setup. Instead, we created a sweet little dragon-inspired cake smash with a beautiful combination of pink and blue, creating a whimsical backdrop for her first birthday celebration.

There is something so fun about taking a child’s interests or a unique theme and turning it into a one-of-a-kind birthday session. Whether your little one loves dragons, dinosaurs, fairies, animals, or something completely unexpected, their cake smash should feel like them.

And, of course, the cake is always a pretty important part of the celebration!

From Tears to Giggles

One of my favorite things about photographing one-year-olds is that they don’t always follow the plan—and that’s okay!

There were definitely a few tears during this session. New surroundings, a new person behind the camera, a giant cake, and a whole new experience can be a lot for a little one.

Rather than rushing through those moments, we gave her the time she needed. Once she became more comfortable, we started to see her personality shine through.

The tears turned into curiosity.

Curiosity turned into smiles.

And eventually, we got to the really fun part cake!

Those transitions are some of my favorite moments to capture because they tell the real story of your baby’s personality and their first birthday experience.

First Birthday Memories in Baltimore

Your baby’s first birthday is such a huge milestone. Somehow, that tiny newborn you brought home just yesterday is suddenly ONE!

A Baltimore cake smash photographer gets to see so many different personalities during these sessions. Some babies immediately dive into the cake. Some delicately poke at it. Some want nothing to do with it. And some need a little time before they’re ready to join the party.

There is no right way to do a cake smash.

My goal is always to create a relaxed environment where your little one can be themselves while I capture all of those little expressions and moments you’ll want to remember.
