Henry turns ONE | Annapolis Family Photographer

I have had the opportunity to photograph sweet Henry twice in the past 4 weeks, and both times were such a delight! You may remember his portraits with is mama (and father too) in a beautiful wedding gown. They were such a gorgeous family, and even thought it was hot outside gorgeous portraits were captured. This time however it was time for Henry’s first birthday cake smash session! His mama brought along some great props to add into his portraits, however what she was most excited about was a nakey shot of him with his tiny baby tushy… seriously what is cuter then that! He did so well, and loved his cake, and his portraits, hes pretty much a natural and should certainly be a baby model!

Do you have a baby with a birthday coming up soon? A first birthday is such a big milestone, the first year is so tough, and getting to the first birthday deserves not only a celebration but portraits and maybe even a cake smash! Here are a few things to consider when thinking about a cake smash or first birthday portraits.

1- Will you be using the images for Birthday invites, or to display at the party? If so you should schedule the session when baby is about 11 months old so there is enough turn around time for post processing, and image ordering.

2- Do you have a theme, or do you prefer to keep it more natural, just baby and cake.

3- Consider butter cream or whip icing, stay away from fondant as it doesnt really get messy, and the hope is to get a messy baby full of icing and cake!

4- You might want to let baby try cake once or twice prior to the session or they may not know what to do with.
