From Pre-K to Senior Year: Why Documenting Every Chapter Matters
There are some clients who become so much more than just clients they become part of your story.
These beautiful twin girls are one of those families for me.
I first photographed them when they were in Pre-K, full of little personalities, big smiles, and the kind of childhood energy that feels endless. Back then, graduation felt like a lifetime away. Their parents were simply trying to hold onto the little moments — the missing teeth smiles, matching outfits, playful laughter, and all the sweet chaos that comes with raising young children.
And now somehow… here we are.
Senior year.
Cap and gown season.
Big decisions.
Final school events.
And the closing of one chapter before stepping into an entirely new one.
Photographing their senior portraits was incredibly special because it felt like flipping through the pages of a family story I’ve had the privilege of witnessing for years. Watching them grow into confident, beautiful young women while still seeing glimpses of the little girls I met years ago was such a full-circle moment.
As a photographer, sessions like these remind me why documenting milestones matters so much.
We often think family photos are only necessary during the “big” moments:
- newborns
- birthdays
- graduations
- weddings
But the truth is, every season deserves to be remembered.
The ordinary years become the ones we miss the most.
The in-between chapters matter:
- missing front teeth
- awkward middle school smiles
- sports uniforms
- dance recitals
- family vacations
- senior year excitement
Because one day, you’ll look back and realize those weren’t ordinary moments at all they were your story unfolding.
For parents especially, life moves quickly. One minute you’re packing lunchboxes and walking little ones into Pre-K classrooms… and the next you’re helping them choose colleges and preparing for graduation announcements.
Time has a way of speeding up when you’re raising children.
That’s why photography is so much more than “taking pictures.”
It’s preserving proof that this chapter existed.
That your children were once little.
That your family changed and grew.
That this season mattered.
Photographing these twins during their senior session was a reminder that the families who choose to document their journey over the years create something incredibly meaningful a visual legacy.
One day these images will tell their story:
who they were,
where they came from,
and how deeply they were loved in every chapter.
And what a beautiful story that is.
