Sometimes it all doesn’t go as planned… | Annapolis Family Photographer

It was my families turn for our portraits… I’m guilty of not scheduling formal family portraits as often as we should… but thankfully… having my husband know his way around manual mode on a DSLR very well does mean I get lots of great photos with my girls, and that I am thankful for. You can never have enough photos, and more importantly you can never print too many photos… printing them is very important. Whenever I place print orders for my clients I also print images of my family and my girls.. even if they are not going up on the wall I print them in just plain old 4 x 6 prints and each of my girls has a keepsake box that I toss the prints into, one day I want them to have a box full of prints to look through and enjoy memories… especially ones that we are all in together. As mamas we may not ever be thin enough, or have our makeup fixed just right, or the perfect outfit on.. what is important is that we were in the photos with our children and that we were making memories with them. They wont look at those photos in 20 years and think ” Man I wish my mother would have put some make-up on…” they will instead look at them and instantly remember the moment, and the feelings, and it will fill them with joy!

So where was I .. ahhh yes, our messy photo session. Soooo we were headed out to the portrait destination when my oldest daughter told me how badly her ear had been hurting.. she began crying, and she has a history of ear infections and tubes and yada yada so we swung through kinder mender… they are the fastest .. Like 10 minutes… urgent care center for children and they are decorated like a little town on the inside with a play area.. its super cute.. well they checked her out and in fact it was s double ear infection… so we decided to call it off.. she was given some doses of meds, that ended up on her clothes and we began to head home… she said the meds were kicking in and she was fine that we should still get our photos taken, she was so excited about them to begin with….

Well, with medicine down her clothes, she had already changed into an extra set of play clothes from the car, but we thought we would give it a go, theres never a bad time to have family memories and photos with my babies… well as we were posing… I had the baby on my hip and suddenly felt pretty wet… looked down to realize she had a massive diaper blow out and I was now covered in it. Of course everyone began laughing, I set the baby down.. and then realized I was somewhat trapped in my shirt, as it was a bit tighter neck opening and I had to pull it over my head annnnnd it was all messy. The laughter continued. I finally got it off but then we realized we were a big ole bunch of unmatched, messy people… the baby had no extra clothing.. so here I am in a field with a messy shirt, a naked baby, and a kid wearing play clothes… Kyle looked great, he always looks great so no issues there. We decided to still take the photos anyway.. we were together and laughing, and it was a moment we will never forget. after all isnt that what photography and making memories is all about, capturing those moemnts we dont want to ever forget, the ones where everyone was full of emotion, the ones that stand out…

Dont ever think any moment is a missed opportunity… take the photos.. be in the photos… laugh with the people you love, and make memories.
